Security & Protection



New Card Activation

Sometimes we'll send you a new card with a blocked account to prevent anyone from intercepting the card in the mail and using it. If you find your new Citi® card is blocked, simply call the number that appears on the sticker on your new card to activate it. Calling from your home phone will help make the card activation process quick and easy.

The Lost Wallet® Service

We can make your life easier when it seems to be upside down. If your Citi® card has been lost or stolen, we'll close your account, open a new one and issue a new Citi® card. We can also provide you with emergency cash, subject to your available Cash Advance limit, and information to help you replace other important documents, like your driver's license or passport. Just call us at 1-888-766-2484.

$0 Liability on Unauthorized Purchases

You won't lose a penny when you use your Citi® card online or anywhere. With $0 Liability, you can have peace of mind knowing that you won't be held responsible for any unauthorized charges to your account.

Retail Protection Services§

These services protect most Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® purchases (whether you buy online or off) from theft or eligible damage for up to 90 days from the date of purchase, and doubles the original U.S. manufacturer's warranty for up to 1 additional year on warranties of 1 year or less.

Price Protection

If you buy something with your Citi card and then see it printed for less within 60 days, Citibank will make sure you receive a refund for the difference up to $250.

Citi® Photocard

Citi® Photocard offers free added security and a great form of photo identification by putting your picture and signature on the front of your Citi® card. Just call 1-800-248-4226.

Security Tips

We have established a number of precautionary measures to protect you against fraud. If your card is ever lost or stolen, call Customer Service immediately so we can cancel your card. We'll issue you a new one, usually within 24 hours. When you call Customer Service, we may ask for information that will help us ensure that you are the authorized user. In addition:
  • Be sure to get your credit card, receipt and carbons back after each transaction.
  • Never write your PIN on your card.
  • Memorize your PIN whenever possible.

Fraud Early Warning Block

We understand how important security is when it comes to your credit card. That's why we've established the FEW (Fraud Early Warning) Block. If we notice any unusual activity on your account, we may temporarily block activity or stop approving charges until we can verify that you authorized the charges. If you believe that a FEW Block has been placed on your account, please call Customer Service at 1-800-950-5114.

Should identity theft happen to you, our Identity Theft Specialists will help you restore your good name and good credit. From filing police reports to contacting major credit bureaus, we will help you get your life back.
